Garland made with paper strips

Garland made with paper strips

Let’s celebrate the children’s new beginnings with a cherry blossom garland! You’ll need construction paper strips measuring 30 cm × 2 cm and 20 cm × 2 cm.

First, accordion-fold both strips with a width of 5 cm per fold.

Then, change the mountain folds to valley folds and tuck them inward by about 0.5 cm.

Next, use a stapler to connect the ends of the two pieces: staple both ends 1 cm up from the bottom.

Make sure the sections you just folded into valleys gather toward the center when you join them.

Staple the remaining three mountain-fold sections at the same position, and also staple just below the creases at the five points where the mountain folds gather in the center.

Finally, flip the paper over to reverse the front and back, and your cherry blossom is complete! Make several and string them on a cord to finish the garland.

Mini bouquet of tulips

Let’s make colorful tulips using origami.

First, fold the paper into a “zabuton” base, then fold it into a triangle twice.

Next, squash the pocketed part into a square, and shape it into a tulip by folding the left and right corners.

Once the tulip is formed, slightly cut the bottom corner, insert a rolled stem, and attach leaves to finish.

Wrap each tulip individually, then arrange them together on the wall as a bouquet.

If you make them easy to remove, you can give them to the children as gifts at the end of the graduation ceremony.

Giant flower decoration

Giant flower decoration

Wall decorations for kindergarten graduation ceremonies often feature flowers as the main theme.

That’s why I’d like to introduce giant flowers.

With a diameter of about 40 cm, they’re a perfect idea when you want the wall décor to look both glamorous and voluminous.

First, make 24 long, narrow pieces of construction paper measuring 36.4 cm by 5 cm.

Then connect three of these pieces to extend the length and glue them into an “∞” shape.

Make eight of these identical shapes, stack them, and glue them together in the center—and your giant flower is complete!

This is a simple flower made by attaching petal pieces to a circular base.

The petal pieces are made using a template.

The template is shaped like a single petal, but make sure the angle at the base matches the angle you get when you fold the circular base piece in half three times.

Place the template along the fold of a sheet of construction paper folded in half, and cut out eight petals.

Attach these to the circular base to complete the flower! Vary the colors of the construction paper and the size of the petals to create a range of designs.

Using double-sided colored construction paper can make it look even more festive!

Cut a piece of cardboard into a square and carve out a stencil on the inside that shows only the tree trunk.

Then attach adhesive tape and place real cherry blossom petals on the sticky surface to create a cherry tree.

It will look like you’ve captured a spring landscape in a picture frame, making it perfect for decorating the wall at a kindergarten graduation ceremony.

If there’s a chance to take a walk with the children before graduation, why not pick up the petals that have fallen on the ground together and make it? It will surely become a wonderful memory.

Flowers made with paper tape

Quick to make and adorable! Here’s an idea for flowers made with paper tape.

First, cut your favorite color of paper tape into short pieces.

Next, overlap and stick the two ends of each cut piece together to form a petal.

Use five of these parts to create a flower shape, then finish by attaching a rolled-up piece of yellow tissue paper in the center for the pistil.

You can switch up the petal and center colors, or use two colors for the petals—your arrangements can create all kinds of flower designs.

They’re easy to mass-produce in a short time, so this is also great if you want to make a flower field or a bouquet!

Roses made with tissue paper

Roses made with tissue paper

So realistic! Let’s make large roses that will make your wall stand out.

First, stack 7–8 sheets of tissue paper and fold them in thirds to create creases.

Next, use those creases to accordion-fold the stack.

Remove just one sheet of tissue paper, then tie the center of the remaining accordion-folded stack with a rubber band.

Round off the corners on both ends, and cut small slits along the fold ridges on both sides.

After that, open the tissue paper sheets one by one to form the rose shape.

For the rose’s center, cut the single sheet you set aside into thirds, then roll one piece from the edge to create the center.
