Onomatopoeia Quiz

[Quiz Play] Try an onomatopoeia game with the kids!
Onomatopoeia Quiz

Children often learn words through onomatopoeia and mimetic expressions—like saying “wan-wan” for dogs or “vroom-vroom” for cars.

Let’s make language acquisition fun by turning these into a quiz: an Onomatopoeia Quiz! Prepare a few dozen cards, each with a picture on the back—like a picture of “wind” behind “soyoso” (gentle breeze) and an “ambulance” behind “pii-poo pii-poo” (siren).

Then just show the cards and run the quiz.

Once they get used to it, try the reverse: show the picture of “wind” and have them say “soyoso.” It’s a very natural activity that helps learning without any stress.

What sound is this?

[Quiz] What sound is this? 2
What sound is this?

It’s a quiz where you listen to a sound and guess what it is.

Even sounds you hear all the time can become unrecognizable when you hear them on their own.

For example, the sound of putting ice in a glass, opening a door, or opening an umbrella—everyday sounds can be especially tricky.

The world is full of sounds, so you’ll never run out of material for the quiz.

Try collecting a variety of sounds and making your own quiz.

If it’s for children, it’s a good idea to prepare some hints.

I wonder what animal's voice it is?

Animals appear frequently in picture books, nursery rhymes, and cartoons, so they feel familiar to children.

So how about trying an animal sound quiz during the thank-you party’s quiz time? Gather sounds that everyone knows—like dogs, cats, pigs, and cows—along with those of animals whose calls are surprisingly unfamiliar, and turn them into a quiz.

It will be a fun time that leads to new discoveries and knowledge for the kids.

For tougher questions, adding video hints or making the answers multiple-choice will make it easier for children to respond.

Stand on stage with a few people holding microphones, and when the music starts, sing.

However, only one person on stage should actually sing; everyone else should just pretend to sing.

Have the audience guess who is really singing.

Since speaking voices and singing voices can sound different, they’ll need to listen carefully.

The singers can be teachers or children, and it might be fun to involve parents as well.
