[Childcare] Ideas for March wall decorations

Here are some ideas for March wall decorations that are useful in childcare settings.

March is packed with end-of-year events—Hinamatsuri (Girls’ Day), farewell field trips, graduation, and preparations for moving up or starting school—so it’s easy to wonder what kind of wall displays to make and when to find the time.

The ideas introduced here focus on decorations that can be displayed as complete wall pieces or used as parts.

If you work on them little by little in your spare moments and put them up, your room will not only look more vibrant, but just seeing them will lift everyone’s spirits!

As the weather gradually warms, enjoy creating colorful wall displays to match the season.

Drawing transforms into tulips!

[Crafts for 1-year-olds] Doodles transform into tulips! We’ll also introduce the materials!
Drawing transforms into tulips!

Introducing an original wall display where kids’ drawings transform into tulips.

Gather construction paper, crayons, glue, and scissors, and let’s get started.

Have the children draw freely on the construction paper.

Then cut the drawn paper into tulip flower and leaf pieces.

It’s also recommended to first cut the paper into flower and leaf shapes and then have the children draw on them.

Glue the tulip flowers onto a sheet where the stem and soil have already been attached, and it’s complete.

For children aged three and up, try letting them make the stem and soil parts too, according to their developmental stage.

Finish it off by drawing clouds and butterflies with crayons or making them from construction paper and gluing them on!

Origami: Little Bird (Spring Wall Decoration)
small bird

Let’s make and decorate together with the kids! Here are some little bird ideas.

After making a small bird out of origami, try arranging it into a wreath.

You’ll need light green origami paper, a paper plate, chenille stems (pipe cleaners), dark brown and brown origami paper, red-toned and white origami paper, round yellow stickers, glue, a pen, an awl, tape, scissors, and a craft knife.

If you draw a smiling face on the little bird with a pen, it can make children who are starting nursery or moving up a grade feel more at ease.

Be sure to give it a try!

Original Song – Creta Class – Creta Class

Let’s make a collage using real cherry blossom petals.

First, draw a tree trunk on a square, board-like piece of cardboard and cut it out as a silhouette.

Then attach clear film to both the front and back, and arrange the collected cherry blossom petals sandwiched between the films.

This way, it will look as if cherry blossoms are truly blooming from the cardboard trunk.

A palm-sized, portable version is great, and creating a larger, more dramatic piece also sounds fun.

Place the petals wherever you like and make a one-of-a-kind collage.

Cherry blossoms decorated using pillars

Sakura (Reading) – Rimi Natsukawa

An idea that’s perfect for large spaces like plazas, gymnasiums, and entrance areas is to use pillars to create cherry blossoms.

First, find a pillar to serve as the base.

Then treat the pillar as the trunk of a cherry tree and decorate the top with cherry blossoms made from origami or similar materials.

Add plenty of blossoms to evoke a tree in full bloom.

Because it uses the entire pillar, the piece will have a strong presence even in wide spaces.

As a variation, you could wrap the pillar with wood-colored paper.

This will make it look even more like a cherry tree.

Let’s make it using tissue paper

How to Make a Dandelion Wall Display? A Preschool Teacher Explains Recommended Spring New-Term Crafts (For Ages 1–3)
Let's make it using tissue paper

Here’s a cute spring wall display featuring dandelions.

Prepare construction paper, tissue paper, round stickers, scissors, and glue to get started.

Cut a circle from construction paper, fold it three times to divide it into eight sections, then cut two triangular notches at the top.

When you open the paper, it will form a dandelion shape.

Make the fluff (seed head) the same way using a different color of construction paper.

Use green construction paper to create leaves and stems.

Glue the dandelion parts onto the base sheet.

For the ladybug, assemble all the parts and use round stickers to make the wing spots.

Changing the color of the round stickers would be cute too.

Crumple tissue paper into a small ball for the dandelion center, glue it on, and you’re done!

Wall-mounted dandelions you can make with construction paper

Here’s how to make a wall decoration of dandelions using construction paper.

Use origami paper to trace the flower and leaf templates onto construction paper.

Cut out the parts and glue them together.

Then, cut the dandelion flower you used as a template into a smaller size and glue it onto the larger flower to finish.

Making lots of dandelions to create a field-like scene can look bright and beautiful.

Because this craft involves using scissors for detailed parts, it’s also recommended for children ages 4 and up.

Give it a try and make your own original dandelions!

Various kinds of rapeseed flowers

Nanohana, with its small yellow blossoms, is irresistibly cute.

How about incorporating nanohana into your crafts in various ways? Prepare fluffy yellow construction paper shaped like the whole flower, and try different techniques for the tiny blossoms: stamp them on with a regular stamp, make finger stamps, use round stickers, create torn-paper collages, or roll up tissue paper and glue it on—there are many expressive methods to play with.

Rolling and gluing tissue paper adds a three-dimensional feel, and finger stamping with a range of warm colors also looks lovely.

It’s perfect for wall decorations, too.
