For Seniors: Simple and Fun! November Recreation Ideas
Here are some November activities and recreations we recommend for older adults.
As November arrives, the scenery begins to shift from autumn to winter, and the temperatures drop quite a bit.
It’s a season where you can enjoy a different kind of seasonal beauty than in the height of autumn, but many older adults may find it hard to move as they’d like due to the cold and end up staying indoors.
With that in mind, this article gathers seasonal games and recreational activities that can be enjoyed indoors.
These ideas are also great for community gatherings and day service settings.
We hope everyone has fun together!

Sweet potato butter

Speaking of autumn, it’s all about sweet potatoes! Seeing sweet potatoes probably reminds many people of digging them up as kids.
This “Sweet Potato Butter” is an easy and delicious recipe to enjoy sweet potatoes.
First, cut the sweet potatoes into batons.
You’ll use them with the skin on, so wash them well.
Soak the cut sweet potatoes in water to remove bitterness, then pat them dry with paper towels.
Put the drained sweet potatoes and potato starch into a plastic bag, then shake to coat them evenly.
Heat oil in a frying pan, add the starch-coated sweet potatoes, and cook until lightly browned.
Add salt, butter, and sugar, toss to coat, and it’s done.
A splash of soy sauce is also delicious if you like!
Persimmon Pudding

This works even for a large group! Please try this very simple recipe for “Persimmon Pudding.” First, cut off the persimmon’s stem end, scoop out the flesh, and make a persimmon cup.
Put the scooped-out flesh into a blender, add milk and sugar, and blend until smooth.
Then pour it back into the persimmon cups, chill in the refrigerator until set, and it’s done! Easy, right? It’s also great that you only need three ingredients.
While it’s chilling, pass the time chatting or doing some sewing, and then enjoy a lovely snack time afterward.
Chestnut Picking Game

For anyone who’s gone chestnut gathering, how about a nostalgic, autumn-themed recreation? First, prepare plenty of plastic bottle caps with pictures of chestnuts and acorns attached.
Using small tongs and baskets you can buy at a dollar store, compete to see how many chestnuts you can collect within a time limit.
Overcome obstacles like some caps being face down or confusing acorns mixed in, and try to gather as many chestnuts as you can.
You can enjoy it in different formats, such as competing by table or against the person sitting across from you.
Exquisite Apple Cake

Let me share a simple cake recipe using apples, a delicious taste of autumn.
First, let’s make the batter.
All you do is mix eggs, pancake mix, and milk together in that order until smooth—super easy, right? Next, peel the apples and slice them thinly, about 2–3 mm.
Transfer the slices to a heatproof dish, pour the batter you just made over them, and spread it so it coats everything evenly.
Once the batter has soaked into the apples a bit and the surface looks level, you’re good to go.
Finally, microwave at 600W for 5 minutes, and it’s done! It can crumble easily if you cut it while it’s hot, so be sure to chill it thoroughly in the refrigerator before serving.
Long-Term Care Insurance Quiz

As we get older, we tend to think more about long-term care insurance.
Since we’re also more likely to use it in practice, it’s important to have a solid understanding of how the system works.
With that in mind, how about trying a quiz on long-term care insurance as a recreational activity? If you have the chance, invite family members to join and deepen everyone’s knowledge together.
