Panasonic: ‘The Return of National Boy’
Panasonic, which grew under its founder Konosuke Matsushita into one of Japan’s leading electronics manufacturers.
In 2018, its 100th anniversary year, the song “Akarui National” that played in the commercial titled “The Return of National Boy” was composed by Toriro Miki, a prolific creator of commercial jingles, and it was beloved for many years starting in the 1950s.
The word “National” itself conveys a sense of reassurance.
The concept behind it—“A bright, happy home powered by electric appliances”—is wonderful, and together with the commercial footage featuring the character “National Boy,” the glamorous, globe-trotting sound instantly lifts your spirits.
Panasonic Reform: 20-Year-Old Home Renovation “Kitchen” Version
This is the eighth single by singer-songwriter KAN, whose popularity exploded after it was featured as an insert song on the variety show “Hō-chan no Yamadakatsutenai TV,” selling over two million copies.
It’s KAN’s signature and most iconic song, and in commercials it has been covered by actress Kaede Ishizuka.
Unlike the original arrangement with its powerful vocals and piano, the version featuring acoustic guitar, piano, and strings brings out even more of the song’s potential.
It’s a track that reaffirms its status as a timeless classic.
