SUUMO Reunion

[Official] SUUMO - SUUMO Reunion Edition

This is the TV commercial “SUUMO Reunion” for the real estate site SUUMO, operated by Recruit.

It’s a narrative-style story in which Suumo, back when he was still a college student, has a “reunion” with Sumomi, whom he had had a crush on since elementary school.

Suumo’s character is surprisingly detailed, and Sumomi has unexpectedly become a gravure idol.

It’s cute how Suumo believes it’s a reunion even though he only spotted Sumomi at a gravure idol event.

SUUMO “New Life” Version

[Official] SUUMO TV Commercial - SUUMO: A New Life Edition

This is the 2013 TV commercial “A New Life” for SUUMO, the real estate website operated by Recruit.

Suumo has moved and started a new life.

It looks like they’re enjoying a fulfilling routine—going shopping at the greengrocer, taking photos of a cat they met in town, and more.

Apparently, Suumo likes music, too.

In their room, they’re jamming away on a guitar—a Flying V painted with stars.

“SUUMO Appears” (version)

Recruit SUUMO (Suumo) - SUUMO Appearance - Version

SUUMO is one of Japan’s largest real estate websites, operated by Recruit.

Its popular character is Suumo.

The fluffy, moss-ball-like look is irresistibly cute.

In the commercials, Suumo searches for a home using dowsing, but after wandering around and getting lost, he ends up mistakenly arriving at a doghouse.

The narration is by Masatō Ibu, whose deep, cool voice is fantastic.

The ‘Don Sumo Appears’ segment

While Suumo is having tea at an open-air café, his coffee starts to float, and above him is a spaceship sucking up the coffee…

Inside the spaceship is Don-Suumo—black, curly-haired, and wearing an eye patch.

At the time the commercial aired, it seems you could watch the continuation by searching “Don-SUUMO” online.

Footprints

Recruit SUUMO TV commercial “Footprints” version

This is the TV commercial “Footprints” from Recruit’s real estate site SUUMO.

Actor Yoshinori Okada gives a strong performance as the father of an elementary school boy.

A father visits the construction site of a newly built house with his son.

The son finds the footprints his father left, and as they follow them together, they end up back at the apartment where the boy was born.

Many viewers were likely moved when the father says, “It was here that I found something I absolutely wanted to protect.”
