[Tokyo Gas] Want to watch again! A roundup of moving all-time commercials (1–10)
Tokyo Gas “I’ll turn on Tokyo Gas’s electricity” version / “I’ll turn off Tokyo Gas’s electricity” versionNEW!Tatsuya Fujiwara
Told from a first-person perspective, this is a commercial promoting the fact that Tokyo Gas also provides electricity.
In the ad, Tatsuya Fujiwara appears in the room of someone who’s sleeping and says things like, “Sorry, I’m just going to turn on the lights,” and “I’ll turn off the lights.” But he makes a point of specifically saying “Tokyo Gas electricity.” The way “Tokyo Gas” is emphasized to an almost unnatural degree might make some viewers chuckle.
Still, it definitely leaves a strong impression that Tokyo Gas is in the electricity business, too.
Tokyo Gas: ‘A History Woven, A Future We Weave’

This commercial briskly portrays the 140-year journey—from lighting gas lamps on the streets of Tokyo 140 years ago, to the spread of gas into households, and even the use of non-gas energy.
Although the company is named Tokyo Gas, the message emphasizes not limiting itself to Tokyo and pursuing possibilities beyond gas, conveying a forward-looking vision for the future.
Family Bonds: Our FamilyMaki Sakai / Nao / Ryosuke Saito

This is the Tokyo Gas commercial “Family Bonds: Our Family.” It features a first-year junior high school boy as the protagonist and depicts the everyday life of a close-knit family with his parents and college-age older sister.
I love the scene where they’re overjoyed when crabs arrive, and the following scene where they silently pick at the crab during a hot pot meal.
The scene where the older sister is about to study abroad, and she and her mother cook side by side in the kitchen, is very moving.
Family Bonds: What It Means to Be a MotherEri Watanabe / Amane Okayama

This is the Tokyo Gas commercial from the CM series “Family Bonds,” the episode titled “What It Means to Be a Mother.” It’s packed with classic “mom” moments, and Eri Watanabe’s performance feels so quintessentially motherly that it really hits home.
Up to the middle it’s the kind of content that makes you laugh, but in the latter half there are scenes that almost bring you to tears.
It’s a commercial that inevitably makes you think of your own mom.
It really makes you want to be good to your parents!
Family Bonds: A Cheer from MotherYukino Kishii

Home-cooked meals that support a woman feeling down because her job hunt isn’t going well.
Seeing the simmered udon in this commercial probably reminds many people of the time they were studying for entrance exams.
When job hunting doesn’t go well, it can feel like your entire self is being rejected, and that’s really hard.
It’s easy to want to avoid your parents because you feel sorry for letting them down—I understand that feeling well.
But maybe that’s exactly when you need to sit down to a warm meal while looking at your family’s faces.
The familiar, comforting taste of home can give you the courage to face things once more.
“Family Bonds: Stop It” VersionKaoru Hirata / Shinya Tsukamoto

This is the “Stop It” installment of Tokyo Gas’s moving, drama-style series of commercials depicting family bonds.
A teenage daughter keeps telling her father to “stop it” in response to his corny, dad-like behavior, but mixed in with those rebukes are “stop it”s that aren’t complaints—ones that show her worry about her overworked father and her feelings about his thoughts on her future marriage.
The quintessentially dad-like father is played by film director Shinya Tsukamoto.
Family Bonds Christmas Version: ‘Maho-chan’s Plan’Risa Mizutani / Jiei Kawahira / Yuna Kawaguchi / Chihito Takemori (Flamingo) / Wataru Oshige (Yofukashi no Kai) / Miwa Arai

This is the Christmas commercial from Tokyo Gas’s “Family Bonds” series titled “Maho-chan’s Plan.” Maho-chan tries to figure out a way to have Santa give her mom a present too, and as she hatches her plan, she comes up with something surprisingly dangerous—totally unexpected given how adorable she is (lol).
It’s such a charming ad, with Miu Arai playing Maho-chan saying, “I’m not sleepy yet!”
