Memorable Commercials [November 2024] (11–20)
Ultramarine Eulogybokula.
This is a Kawaijuku commercial introducing a course for university entrance exams that starts not in April of the third year of high school, but in January of the second year.
It addresses the feelings of high school students who think, “College entrance exams are important, but I also want to value my high school life,” and promotes a student-centered curriculum designed to prevent the situation of “I didn’t have enough time to prepare for the exams…”.
The background music features bokula.’s 2023 release “Gunjo Oka.” Its lyrics are filled with images of club activities and school life, brimming with the passionate spirit of youth, and are sure to stir your heart when you listen.
Overturesugiyama kouichi
This is a teaser commercial for the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation, renowned as one of the masterpieces of the series, featuring a unique visual style.
As seen in the commercial, it’s characterized by a fresh yet nostalgic atmosphere, with classic pixel-art characters appearing against beautiful 3D backgrounds.
The ad features famous tracks from the Dragon Quest series, starting with the Overture.
YOUSazan Ōrusutāzu
This is a commercial announcing Uniqlo’s Thanksgiving event, celebrating the brand’s 40th anniversary in 2024.
The BGM features “YOU,” a track from the 1990 album Southern All Stars.
In the CM, Haruka Ayase, Kohei Matsushita, and Yumi Kawai perform in a musical-like style in time with the song.

This commercial, which opens with Anna Ishii getting caught in a sudden downpour and breaking into a run as she gazes out at the sea, is Kirin Hyoketsu’s “Attacked by a Sunshower” edition.
She then takes shelter from the rain at a nearby shop, where she spots a beautiful rainbow after the shower.
The image of Ishii savoring a Hyoketsu while watching the rainbow stretching over the sea is truly striking.
SummerHisaishi Joe
This is a commercial in which hop farmers from Tono City in Iwate Prefecture highlight the strengths of the hops they grow themselves, introducing how using them is indispensable for making delicious Japanese beer.
The background music accompanying this narration features Joe Hisaishi’s “Summer,” a magical track with a distinctly Japanese sensibility that perfectly suits a commercial themed around Japanese hops and Japanese beer.

The commercial “Study,” which shows listening to music with Nintendo Music as a companion to studying.
