Memorable Commercials [March 2025] (61–70)
Over the RainbowHajime Chitose
Narrated as taking emissions reduction seriously, this is a series of Colt commercials that aired in 2003.
The Colt ads at the time featured a cover of “Over the Rainbow,” a song from The Wizard of Oz.
In the commercial introduced here, a cover version by Chitose Hajime is used.
Her folk-like vocal inflections are striking, resulting in a lovely arrangement that, despite being a foreign song, conveys a distinctly Japanese atmosphere.
Mine or YoursUtada Hikaru
This commercial, which shows Hikaru Utada working on songwriting, is Ayataka’s “A Sip, A Breath.
‘Work’” edition.
It depicts her writing lyrics in a relaxed mood, surrounded by equipment and accompanied by a bottle of Ayataka.
The background music features Mine or Yours, a song written specifically for this ad.
With its laid-back tempo, it’s a track that lets you fully savor Utada’s clear, translucent vocals.
Over the RainbowYamazaki Masayoshi
In this commercial for the Colt, developed jointly with DaimlerChrysler, the memorable narration says, “Japan and Germany gave it serious thought,” and it proudly highlights the freedom to choose exterior colors and features.
The background music is the classic “Over the Rainbow,” covered by artists worldwide.
For this particular CM, a vocal version by Masayoshi Yamazaki was selected.

This commercial, which depicts watching a baseball game from the bench, is for Curry House CoCo Ichibanya.
