Compilation of car commercials: A comprehensive showcase of domestic and international automakers, regardless of brand

When you watch TV or browse the internet, you see car commercials all the time, don’t you? Not only domestic manufacturers but also overseas brands are actively producing ads.

Many of these car commercials are particular about their cast and background music, so you probably have at least one that left a lasting impression on you.

In this article, we’ll showcase a wide range of car commercials from both Japanese and international automakers, old and new.

Since the cast, music, and direction vary by model, enjoy spotting the differences as you watch.

Nissan (1–10)

Nissan Days: ‘A New Kei Car for a New Japan’ (Version)

[New Days] TV commercial 'A New Kei for a New Japan' Reiwa Edition – 30 seconds

A kei car packed with advanced technology—will it become the new standard for a new era? The commercial features an original track as background music that gives a smart, sophisticated impression.

At the time, the new era name “Reiwa” had just been announced, and Nissan quickly produced a commercial with a forward-looking, new-era theme.

Because it’s an original commercial song, the performing artist hasn’t been disclosed, but the track is a perfect, cool match for the car’s image!

Nissan Serena ‘The Beginning’ Version

[Nissan Serena CM] - Japan Edition 2019 (Part 2)

The final narration is by Eikichi Yazawa, and he also makes a brief appearance at the beginning of this commercial.

It’s the Nissan Serena “The Beginning” commercial, known for the catchphrase “Unleash it, Nissan’s day of technology.” As a family car ad, it highlights safety, but it’s finished with a very cool, masculine vibe.

The narration is handled by O-KOOL, who’s active as a DJ.

His straightforward and pure delivery sparked buzz, and when the ad first aired, people were asking, “Whose voice is this?”

Mazda (1–10)

MAZDA AXELA “Be a driver.” edition

Mazda “Axela Be a driver Hybrid” D 20140701

Mazda is an automaker headquartered in Hiroshima Prefecture, and Tamio Okuda is also a singer-songwriter from Hiroshima, right? This song was specially written by Tamio Okuda—connected to Hiroshima—for a Mazda commercial.

It has that signature, pleasantly laid-back Tamio Okuda vibe and uplifting lyrics that feel incredibly comfortable and even refreshing.

The music video features Mazda’s sports car, the Roadster (MX-5), and tells the story of a crash-test dummy preparing for a collision test.

MAZDA CX-8 “Debut” Version

"'MAZDA CX-8 Debut' version, 30 seconds, from December 2017"

The Mazda CX-8 commercial song features a modern, stylish melody that feels perfect for elevating any drive.

The track was created by Yoshihiro Fujii of Backslash, a team known for producing original music for commercials.

It pairs perfectly with the image of a sleek car gliding gracefully along—something you wouldn’t expect from such a spacious interior.

The melody, which doesn’t fit neatly into any single genre and carries a sense of freshness, can ultimately be summed up as simply “cool.” It’s a track you’ll want to play as a sophisticated driving song.

MAZDA All New Mazda 2

Mazda UK advert – Take Me Away – Dave Holden feat. NADINE

The commercial for Mazda’s All New Mazda 2 shows the car swiftly speeding through a place so dark and subterranean, you’d hardly call it a normal driving environment.

The CM song, Take Me Away, gives a mysterious impression, as if it were expressing the enigmatic space within an underground tunnel.

The track is a collaboration between producer/composer David Holden and singer Nadine.

The title literally means “Take me with you.” True to that phrase, listening to this song makes you feel as if you’re setting off on a mysterious adventure, racing through an underground tunnel.

MAZDA CX-8 “When It Fills” Version

maZDa CX-8 CM “When It’s Fulfilled” Version 30 Seconds

The stylish Mazda CX-8 commercial “When It Fills,” which blends seamlessly with traditional Japanese culture.

The CM song, featuring a clear, dignified piano tone, was produced by Nozomi Yoneda of invisi fellow, a company that creates message-driven works through sound.

The first half of the ad features a melody for piano and choir that evokes the elegance of Japanese tradition, and a beat enters in the second half.

This transition from the first half to the second feels like a shift from Japan’s cherished traditional culture to a future-oriented, evolving Japan.

Daihatsu (1–10)

Daihatsu Move Canbus “COLORING LIFE: Sea” Version

[Daihatsu Move Canbus CM] - 2020 Daihatsu Japan 'Move CANBUS' TV Commercial -

The BGM for Daihatsu Move Canbus “COLORING LIFE: Sea” is ‘Kimi wa Tennenshoku,’ sung by Sakura Fujiwara.

This song is a cover of Eiichi Ohtaki’s original, which was released in 1981.

It’s a classic that has since been covered by numerous artists.

It’s frustrating that you only get to hear a snippet in the commercial—you’re left wanting to hear the whole thing—and it leaves you with a refreshing feeling.

It’s a track that perfectly suits the ad’s vibe and even carries a touch of nostalgia.
