The 22nd of every month is said to be a certain confectionery’s day. What is that popular sweet?

There are countless sweets around the world, and many commemorative days have been established to celebrate their origins and histories.

Among the various sweets-related anniversaries, which sweet has a commemorative day on the 22nd of every month? There’s a wordplay element involved, but the clever part is that it doesn’t rely on a pun on “22.” The big hint is to look at a calendar.

The answer is shortcake: on a calendar, the 15th always appears directly above the 22nd, and since the number 15 can be read as “ichigo” (strawberry) in Japanese, it suggests “a day with a strawberry on top”—hence, Shortcake Day.

How many serrations (crimps) does the crown on a bottled beer cap have?

How many serrations (crimps) does the crown on a bottled beer cap have?

Bottled beer is different from canned or poured beer, and the act of popping the cap—called a crown—with a bottle opener is part of the charm, isn’t it? So, how many of those little ridges on the bottle cap, the reason it’s called a crown, are there? Some people might not even know the number was once standardized.

Let’s also think about what number gives good balance and what that balance affects.

The answer is 21.

That was the specified number up until 1994, designed so the cap tightens evenly in a triangular pattern while also being easy to catch with an opener.

So it might be a good idea to try quizzes that are genuinely useful in daily life, rather than just random trivia.

For example: “How can you reduce the bitterness of medicine?”, “How do you remove a ring that’s stuck on your finger?”, and “How do you restore the cutting ability of dull scissors?” There are plenty of handy tips you can put to use right away.

What vegetable was once grown for ornamental purposes because it was considered ‘poisonous’?

What vegetable was once grown for ornamental purposes because it was considered 'poisonous'?

This answer would surprise even older folks! Nowadays, it’s an extremely common food that just about everyone, young and old, has eaten at least once.

Hints include that it’s a vegetable, it can be sweet or sour, and it contains lycopene, which helps improve lifestyle-related health issues and is great for beauty.

The answer is—tomatoes! The issue stemmed from toxins contained in tomatoes, but thanks to selective breeding, those toxic components have been greatly reduced today.

Still, the non-fruit parts like the stems and leaves are dangerous, so please be careful.
