Ikimonogakari’s “Ikou” is bursting with a sense of speed and a bright, sparkling worldview that’s quintessentially them.

Written and composed by Hotaka Yamashita, who was a member until June 2021, this song was used in JRA’s 2016 TV commercials.

Its message, which resonates with the thrill of horse racing and a life lived alongside horses, is powerful and truly uplifting! It may bring back memories for some, and surely make others want to head to the races.

JRA THE LEGEND: ‘Japanese Derby – Vodka’ Edition

The LEGEND 2013 JRA Commercial: Japanese Derby – Vodka

A JRA commercial from the “THE LEGEND” series that introduces horses which have won GI races.

In the spot featuring Vodka—who, in the 2007 Japanese Derby, became the first filly in 64 years to capture the title—the music is by Kenichi Asai.

The rock-tinged melody is perfect for a filly that delivered a stunning performance, beating the colts, and it’s undeniably cool.

The exhilarating sense of speed makes you feel like you’re racing alongside her! The guitar in the first half bristles with fighting spirit, and after the narration announces the victory, the triumphant melody and vocals are electrifying.

Meanwhile, in the “GⅠ” version, Ryoma Takeuchi, who joins the group later, suggests, “Let’s go watch a GⅠ,” inviting everyone along, and we see them going to the racetrack together.

Watching the cast speak so enthusiastically about what makes horse racing fun might pique the interest of people who’ve never watched it before.

JRA THE LEGEND “February Stakes Meisei Opera” Edition

The LEGEND 2013 JRA commercial: February Stakes, Meisei Opera

In the commercial for the February Stakes in the THE LEGEND series, an original track by Cornelius was featured.

With a melody where every instrument layers in and bursts forth flamboyantly, you can feel the momentum and excitement of the race.

It’s such a compelling piece that it feels like a waste to leave it as a CM-only track—you’ll want to keep riding that energy.

Just as the racehorses run their hearts out, it gives you the power to throw yourself into something with full focus and determination.

Ryokuoushoku Shakai’s “Mela!” was released in 2020 and is one of the band’s signature songs, known for various tie-ins.

Its bright sound incorporating brass creates a refreshing atmosphere, and the energy of the vocals and rhythm conveys a sense of positivity.

The lyrics, which seem to depict a determination to stay true to oneself, are also striking, giving listeners the courage to move forward.

It was also used in a JRA commercial announcing the start of the autumn racing season—a CM that conveys the feeling that something is about to begin.

Autumn racing features major races, and the narration by Masami Nagasawa expresses the excitement of seeing how horses that gained strength over the summer will perform.
