Quiz for the Teacher

Quiz for the Teacher

The teachers are hiding all their identifying features—like their faces, bodies, and voices—by wearing cloths and gloves.

In that state, you ask the teachers questions and try to guess which person is which teacher.

It’s quite challenging…! Ask lots of questions that might lead you to the teacher, such as habits you often notice or what they did during events.

Paper Plate Theater: The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Let’s turn the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar—where a caterpillar eats lots of different things—into an interactive read-aloud using paper plates! For scenes other than when the caterpillar is eating, simply draw the story’s illustrations on paper plates as usual.

For eating scenes, make a single cut in one spot on the paper plate from the edge to the center, and draw the food so it doesn’t overlap that slit.

Prepare another paper plate with the same kind of slit and draw the caterpillar on it.

When telling the story, place the caterpillar plate behind the food plate and rotate it so the caterpillar appears through the slit in the food plate, making it look as if it’s eating.

Delight the children with a fresh way to enjoy the story, different from a regular picture book!

Shiritori Train

Shiritori Train

“Shiritori Train” is a children’s game that’s also played on the NHK program “Okaasan to Issho” (With Mother).

Prepare a train made up of several connected cars, and decide in advance which words will go in the first and last cars.

Then, together with the children, fill in the words that will go in between so the train connects properly.

If everything links up, your Shiritori Train is complete! By thinking up a few possible words to go in the middle and showing them to the children, you can also help develop their thinking skills.

Birthday Cake Magic

Simple magic tricks to liven up a birthday party: Birthday cake magic
Birthday Cake Magic

It’s a magic trick where a cake made of paper instantly turns back into just paper, and then in another instant even gets colored.

What’s being done is simple, so I think it’s suitable for children around kindergarten age.

The craft itself is simple and doesn’t take much effort, but I think it would also be fun to try boosting the quality.

Also, as the title suggests, it seems adaptable to ideas beyond just a birthday cake.

Card Theater: What will it transform into?

Do you know about Card Theater? They’re playful cards like pop-up books turned into cards.

Flip over a red round card and it becomes an apple; flip over a white round card and it becomes a soccer ball.

Several folded circles stretch out to become a caterpillar, and there are many other surprises.

You can all play while guessing, “What is it? What will it be?” It’s a performance that even little kids can enjoy together.
