Asahi Kasei Home Products, Episode 4: ‘Snack Time’Rei Sato

This is part of a series of Saran Wrap commercials that aired in 2015.
This one is Episode 4, “Snack Time.” The bear is so happy to be praised that he makes too many pancakes.
He looks adorable as he twitches his nose and deftly flips a pancake in the frying pan.
The way he stands on tiptoe to peer into the freezer, followed by a little nod, makes this a commercial that brings happiness just by watching it.
Asahi Kasei Home Products Saran Wrap: Daisuke-oniisan’s Saran Wrap experiment videoDaisuke Yokoyama

The commercial “Experiment Video,” in which various experiments are conducted using Saran Wrap, features Daisuke Yokoyama, who used to be the singing big brother on “Okaasan to Issho”! With the beautiful voice you’d expect from a singing big brother and a melody reminiscent of the show, he kicks off experiments together with children.
They test Saran Wrap’s properties—such as its strength, clinginess, and whether it prevents odors from escaping—to verify the product’s authenticity.
No matter the experiment, each one proves the reliable quality of Saran Wrap.
It’s a fun ad that shows Daisuke Oniisan genuinely surprised at times and playfully joking around at others.
Asahi Kasei Home Products Saran Wrap “SHINSEN! Beach” VersionJoe Odagiri

The Saran Wrap commercial “SHINSEN! Beach Edition,” which aired in 2009.
It features Joe Odagiri, who has always been cool and seems to get even cooler with age.
The ad clearly conveys Saran Wrap’s defining feature—keeping things fresh—by showing Odagiri eating a watermelon wrapped in Saran Wrap on the beach.
It’s a simple commercial with no unnecessary lines, and you can’t help but watch as Odagiri coolly eats watermelon against a backdrop of summer scenery.
Asahi Kasei Home Products Saran Wrap “Perfect for Birthdays!” VersionAyachi Nakata

The colorful bears that frequently appear in Saran Wrap commercials star in the spot where they throw a birthday party, titled “Stick-on Birthday!” The co-star is model Ayaka Nakata.
To celebrate Nakata’s birthday when she returns from work, the bears decorate the room and prepare a feast.
When Nakata comes home and says, “I’m back,” they immediately pop party crackers to celebrate—but she drops a shocking line: “My birthday is tomorrow.” The bears droop in disappointment, but Nakata starts wrapping all the prepared ingredients in plastic wrap, saying they can eat them for tomorrow’s birthday.
Thanks to Saran Wrap keeping everything fresh, it’s safe to carry the celebration over to the next day.
In the end, friends gather and a lively birthday party takes place.
Asahi Kasei Home Products Episode 3: ‘Want to Stick Together’Miwa Ko Wagatsuma
It’s a series of TV commercials for Saran Wrap that aired in 2014.
In Episode 3, “I Want to Stick Close,” the bear who keeps snugly pressing up against you on an empty train is adorable.
It’s meant to show how tightly Saran Wrap clings, and even if you scoot away a little because it’s so cramped, the bear cutely inches back to close the distance.
The way it looks so happy at the end when it gets petted is truly heartwarming.
Asahi Kasei Home Products Saran Wrap “It Was a Proposal” VersionJunichi Okada, Mana Okada

The actors appearing in the “It Was a Proposal” segment are Junichi Okada from V6 and model Mana Okada.
It depicts Junichi Okada proposing to Mana Okada at a high-end restaurant.
Just when you think he’s going to pull a ring out of his breast pocket, out comes—Saran Wrap! As he pulls out the plastic wrap, he sings a proposal song in his characteristically beautiful voice.
The commercial plays on the double meaning of promising to always protect her and Saran Wrap’s ability to protect moisture, aroma, and deliciousness.
With his quirky song and actions, Mana Okada only realizes at the very end that it was, in fact, a proposal.

Asahi Kasei Home Products Saran Wrap 1989 Commercial

Do you know mamakari? It’s a local dish from Okayama Prefecture, made by pickling a small fish called mamakari in vinegar, and in this commercial the pickled mamakari suddenly appears right from the start.
When the wife worries about the smell transferring, the shopkeeper recommends, “If it’s Saran Wrap, it won’t let the smell through.” I wondered what the ad was for, and it turned out to be Saran Wrap.
It’s a cleverly structured commercial.
