Compilation of in-store supermarket BGM: From Yobikomi-kun to original tracks all in one place (41–50)
An elephant was flying.

The image song for Elena, a supermarket chain mainly operating in Nagasaki and Saga prefectures, is “Elephants Were Flying.” Just from the title it doesn’t seem related to a supermarket, but it comes from Elena’s elephant logo, and the lyrics tell a story about shopping.
The gentle yet lively rhythm is striking, and the buoyant sound conveys the fun of shopping and the small happiness found in everyday life.
It gives the impression of expressing the joy of the time spent wandering around wondering what to buy, rather than just purchasing what you came for.

In-store BGM
Hallows primarily operates in the Chugoku and Shikoku regions.
If you’re a soccer fan, you might recognize the name as a sponsor of Fagiano Okayama and Hiroshima United.
It’s a supermarket known for being open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
The BGM is only about 20 seconds long, but that’s exactly why it sticks in your head.
It might also be because it plays slotted between existing Japanese pop songs.
With lyrics and a melody that scream “this is a supermarket,” even people who’ve never been to Hallows might feel a touch of nostalgia.
Usual Smiles A-Coop

The supermarket business operated by agricultural cooperatives—namely JA—is A-Coop.
Its theme song is “Itsumo no Egao A-Coop” (“The Usual Smiles at A-Coop”).
The cheerful vibe makes your steps feel lighter as you walk through the store.
The lyrics were written by a member of the general public selected through an open call.
This song is the second-generation theme and has been in use since 2009.
Many people are probably familiar with the first-generation theme, “Anata to Watashi no A-Coop” (“A-Coop for You and Me”), which had been played since 1978.
OREGON

Big House is a supermarket chain mainly operating in Hokkaido and the Tohoku region.
The in-store BGM they used was an instrumental track called “OREGON,” notable for its energetic intro.
Its lively vibe might just make you want to buy more than you planned.
Some of you may have heard this track elsewhere, too.
In fact, it’s a piece included in a royalty-free music collection, “Sound Staff Vol.19,” released by the Shizuoka-based music production company Sound Factory Inc.
Way Home

This is the in-store BGM of Sunny Mart, a local supermarket chain in Kochi and Ehime Prefectures.
The singers are Superband, a female acoustic duo from Kochi.
The gentle acoustic guitar accompaniment and the lively harmony of the female vocals leave a very positive impression.
The lyrics depict a happy family, and listening to it makes you want to hurry home and see your loved ones.
It’s a heartwarming song that makes you think, “It’s too good to be just background music in a supermarket!”
Nakamakana

Maranaka, headquartered in Kagawa Prefecture, operates stores mainly across the Chugoku and Shikoku regions.
The in-store BGM chosen by this supermarket is “Nakamakana,” sung by Kaori Mizumori, an enka singer known as the “Queen of Local Songs.” The lively sound evokes classic kayōkyoku, and the melody is crafted to be easy for both adults and children to sing along to—perfect for joining in while you shop.
It’s a song that will lift your spirits, complemented by Kaori Mizumori’s glamorous vocals.
Hooray for deli side dishes!Fujii Kimiko

When it comes to what gives a supermarket its character, the differences in their prepared foods come to mind—and many people might even choose a supermarket based on that.
“Hooray for Prepared Foods!” is a song that captures the fun and joy of picking out those deli items, one of the simple pleasures of shopping.
Its light, breezy sound is striking, and that refreshing vibe really conveys the sense of fun.
The lyrics depict the variety of dishes available and the dilemma of choosing among them, making it an entertaining piece that sings about all sorts of menu items.
