Song of the Mokkun Family

This is the song by Mokkun, who served as Daiei’s Special PR Director and appeared as the image character for Thursday Market.
The track, which also plays inside Daiei stores, is a super catchy number: an uptempo tune with lyrics full of repeated phrases that stick in your head.
The composer is Hiroshi Fujimaki, and at the end of the song there’s a guitar solo by Yosuke Fukuba, who performs with Fujimaki as the duo OtoneZ.
The fact that a supermarket’s in-store BGM features a full-fledged guitar solo became a hot topic among music fans.
I’m very happy.

The song “Totemo Shiawase.” (“So Very Happy.”) belongs to Universe, a supermarket chain headquartered in Aomori Prefecture with stores in Aomori, Iwate, and Akita.
With a buoyant yet gentle melody, it portrays the small, everyday lives of people and the presence of the supermarket that supports them.
The lyrics depict essentials like meat and fish, conveying Universe’s commitment to supporting daily living.
Including the vocals, the song has a tender atmosphere and clearly evokes positive emotions.
All-you-can-eat yodelingKatsura Jakusaburō with Manpuku Burazāzu

When it comes to dining out for yakiniku, all-you-can-eat is the standard, and I think it strongly evokes a sense of a special treat across generations.
“Yodel All-You-Can-Eat” is a song themed around all-you-can-eat yakiniku, cheerfully sung with a yodeling vibe to capture the joy of that time.
When it’s played in supermarkets, it’s often used in the meat section, but since the song also mentions non-meat items, I imagine it’s also played during yakiniku fairs and the like.
Listening to this song while browsing the meat section really heightens your anticipation for what kind of yakiniku feast you’ll end up having.
In-store BGM

Valor, whose company name is derived from the English word meaning “the brave,” is popular for its well-developed private-brand products.
The in-store BGM is this piece of music.
Its electronic organ tone has a uniquely nostalgic feel.
Along with the rhythmic drumming, it lifts your shopping mood.
It’s the kind of tune that makes you want to browse the store with a bright spirit, even when you’re wondering, “What should I make for dinner today?” It might be nice to enjoy your shopping to the buoyant, heart-lifting melody.

Yamanaka’s Song

This is the theme song for Yamanaka, a supermarket based in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, with locations in Gifu and Mie as well.
Its light, buoyant sound is a defining feature, conveying the desire for shoppers to enjoy their daily lives through shopping.
The vocals, layered with the sound, also emphasize a sense of lightness, while confidently portraying the supermarket’s ability to offer anything you need.
With thickly layered choruses singing the store name “Yamanaka,” it’s a song that leaves the name firmly in your ears.
Ring the Fresta bell

This is the theme song of Fresta, a supermarket chain mainly operating in Hiroshima and Okayama prefectures.
While this song is played inside Fresta stores, it also serves as the company anthem, and is characterized by its calm atmosphere and lyrics.
The lyrics convey a distinctive message about life, connecting the past and the future, and many people who’ve heard it in the store may have thought, “What a nice song.” For those in Hiroshima and Okayama, it’s likely a memorable tune.
SUPER CENTER PLANT

PLANT, headquartered in Fukui Prefecture, has opened stores across regions such as Hokuriku, Kansai, and Chugoku.
A distinctive feature is that it handles not only food but also clothing and everyday goods, and the lyrics of the song played in the store sing about its wide selection.
The track is marked by a snappy guitar accompaniment and a funky bassline, highlighted by a rich female vocal reminiscent of a Western pop singer.
If you play guitar or bass, it’s the kind of song that makes you want to pick up your instrument and try it yourself!
