Supermarkets are indispensable for our day-to-day shopping.

You probably have a few regular stores you visit, and among the background music they play, aren’t there some tunes that stick in your head?

Sometimes you’ll hear in-store arrangements of popular J-pop songs, but there are also original tracks made just for that supermarket, or that distinctive “po po—po po po po” melody—there’s a wide variety of in-store BGM out there.

In this article, we’ll introduce a bunch of supermarket in-store BGM tracks that will make you think, “I’ve heard this before!” and bring a little smile to your face.

Hello Day

Hello Day, bringing happiness

This is the theme song of Hello Day, a supermarket headquartered in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture.

Hello Day has its own unique greeting, “Ogenki-sama,” and aims to be a company overflowing with smiles, energy, gratitude, and inspiration.

Just like the phrase “Ogenki-sama,” the theme song lifts the spirits of everyone who listens to it.

Yoshitaka Ouchi, a musician from the same Kitakyushu area as the company’s headquarters and known for the song “Ai ga Umareta Hi,” composed the piece.

You can feel the loving, energetic spirit in the music, reflected in the choice to have a local artist compose the theme.

The chorus is so catchy you’ll find yourself wanting to sing along.

All-you-can-eat yodelingKatsura Jakusaburō with Manpuku Burazāzu

When it comes to dining out for yakiniku, all-you-can-eat is the standard, and I think it strongly evokes a sense of a special treat across generations.

“Yodel All-You-Can-Eat” is a song themed around all-you-can-eat yakiniku, cheerfully sung with a yodeling vibe to capture the joy of that time.

When it’s played in supermarkets, it’s often used in the meat section, but since the song also mentions non-meat items, I imagine it’s also played during yakiniku fairs and the like.

Listening to this song while browsing the meat section really heightens your anticipation for what kind of yakiniku feast you’ll end up having.

The pleasant melodies of supermarket BGM add color to our everyday shopping.

Among them, “Kyo mo Kono Machi” sung by Koinoko stands out for its warm vocals and friendly rhythm, making it easy to remember and loved by many.

You can even hear it in the in-car announcements on the Hankai Line, and it holds a special place for those visiting the Kintetsu (Kinsho) Store in front of the station.

When this song plays, time in the store feels even more comfortable.

It blends seamlessly into daily life, turning shopping into enjoyable moments.

The refreshing melody and vocals are striking, and it’s the kind of song that lifts your spirits as you listen.

The lyrics express a desire to be a partner in everyday life, showing how closely the brand stands by its customers.

The highlight of the track is the sax solo between the first and second verses.

It’s built from very passionate phrases and is highly satisfying to listen to, so be sure to pay attention to that section.

This is the theme song of Fresta, a supermarket chain mainly operating in Hiroshima and Okayama prefectures.

While this song is played inside Fresta stores, it also serves as the company anthem, and is characterized by its calm atmosphere and lyrics.

The lyrics convey a distinctive message about life, connecting the past and the future, and many people who’ve heard it in the store may have thought, “What a nice song.” For those in Hiroshima and Okayama, it’s likely a memorable tune.

Yamanaka

Yamanaka’s Song

Yamanaka's Song

This is the theme song for Yamanaka, a supermarket based in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture, with locations in Gifu and Mie as well.

Its light, buoyant sound is a defining feature, conveying the desire for shoppers to enjoy their daily lives through shopping.

The vocals, layered with the sound, also emphasize a sense of lightness, while confidently portraying the supermarket’s ability to offer anything you need.

With thickly layered choruses singing the store name “Yamanaka,” it’s a song that leaves the name firmly in your ears.

Nishitetsu Store

My Store

[Store BGM] Reganet Song “My Store”
My Store

This is the theme song of Reganet, a supermarket familiar to people living in Fukuoka Prefecture.

You might casually hear it when you enter the store, but the intro begins with a string ensemble that sets an elegant mood.

The music reflects the store’s distinctive commitment to offering fresh meat, vegetables, and fish, as well as carefully selected items procured by specialist buyers—everyday shopping with a touch of luxury that’s unique to this supermarket.

It even quotes Pachelbel’s Canon partway through, which adds a sense of familiarity by incorporating a tune that even first-time listeners are likely to recognize.
