morning glory

Let’s make a summer flower—morning glory—out of origami.

The folding method is simple, and you can make it with just one sheet of origami paper! Rather than a lot of complex folds, the process mainly involves creating crease lines, so be sure to press in those creases firmly as you go.

Gently opening along the final crease feels exciting, almost like a real morning glory blooming! If the back lifts up after you’ve finished, secure it with clear tape or glue.

Adding leaves or a vine makes it wonderfully summery and charming.

Here’s a cute flower you can make with a single sheet of origami paper.

First, turn the paper over and fold it like a boat, then open the corners and squash-fold them.

Fold the top layer upward, and fold the right side to the left.

Using the center as an axis, fold the left corner to the right, leaving a small gap between the corner and the crease.

Rotate and repeat the same steps for the other sides.

Fold each corner to the back by about 5 mm.

Next, flip it over and make a crease only in the middle, then fold up to the creased line to finish.

Adding a round sticker in the center makes it extra cute.

You can flatten and store it when not in use! It’s a star-shaped trinket box.

Fold the origami in half, then in half again to make a square.

After creasing, open it back to the half-folded state, align both side edges to the center line to crease, then unfold.

Fold the two bottom corners up to the outer crease, then fold again so the new creases align with the center line.

In this state, trim off the unnecessary top portion, and the origami becomes a hexagon.

Fold the edges of the hexagon inward, crease the center of the origami into a hexagon, then keep adding creases as you collapse it into a smaller hexagon.

Finally, fold the center area outward to make the opening of the container, press the sides inward to form a star shape, and you’re done!
