Tag and Chase Play Ideas (1–10)

Wheelbarrow tag is a game of tag played in pairs.
You play while holding the “wheelbarrow” pose, which is a bit tricky, so it’s best for a parent and child to do together.
To make the wheelbarrow pose, first get on all fours with your palms spread wide and firmly on the ground.
Then, the supporting partner grabs the ankles of the person on all fours and lifts them up.
Keeping the palms spread, use your arm strength to move forward.
This pose helps children strengthen their arm and abdominal muscles.
It’s recommended when you want to get good physical activity even indoors.
Back-to-back tag

In “Back-to-Back Tag,” players form pairs standing back-to-back.
One pair is “it,” and the other back-to-back pairs run away.
Don’t you want to see how in sync you are with a friend or someone you’re close to? Since you’re running away back-to-back, one of you will end up sprinting backward.
You’ll naturally want to be careful not to bump your partner, but because there’s an “it,” you have to keep running.
Give it a try and see how well you and your friend can move in sync!
Obstacle tag

For those who find regular tag boring, we recommend ‘obstacle tag.’ You deliberately place items from indoors in inconvenient spots and play tag around them.
Since you have to think about dodging obstacles, you can’t run or chase at full speed.
Red Light, Green Light

Many people have played “Daruma-san ga koronda” at least once at school.
It’s fun even as you get older, making it perfect for parent–child recreation.
In the standard version you only have to freeze, but you can get creative—for example, the ‘king-style’ version where the tagger (the ‘demon’) calls out a specific pose for everyone to strike.
It’s a game that can be adapted so everyone can enjoy it, adjusting for age, physique, gender, and more.

The basic rules are the same as regular tag, but the way you flee and chase is different.
Both the runners and the chaser (the “it”) move forward while sitting with their knees up, using only their bottoms and arms.
You must never stand up! Anyone tagged by “it” becomes the next chaser.
To make it clear who’s “it,” it might be good for that person to wear something noticeable like a hat or a sash.
Since foot speed doesn’t matter here, people can play together regardless of differences in physical ability!
