JR commercial roundup. A comprehensive look at commercials where you can see the trains!

You’ve probably often seen JR commercials—JR has a rail network spanning all across Japan—while watching TV or browsing video sites.

They’re full of things that make you want to go out, like announcements about great deals and travel campaigns you can enjoy using JR lines.

What’s more, JR commercials feature all kinds of trains, from the Shinkansen to popular limited express trains, so they’re fun to watch for the visuals alone.

Tomorrow’s DESIGN: Employee Ideas Edition (30-second ver.)

This is a JR East commercial introducing new services born from employees’ ideas, such as renting baby strollers at stations.

In addition to Minami Hamabe, the ad features her future children appearing from the future, and Hamabe’s slightly bewildered reaction to the situation is also a key highlight.

Gold Card - 15 seconds

This commercial, which begins with the line “Adults need breathing room,” is JR East’s View Card commercial, the “Gold Card” version.

It promotes how the View Card Gold lets you earn lots of points when booking Green Car seats or Shinkansen tickets.

However, the man who declared “Adults need…” at the beginning ends up getting so carried away by the great deals that he bursts into triumphant laughter.

It’s a memorable ad with humor and a dynamic sense of pacing.

Adult Holiday Club “Fukushima & Aizu” Version – 60 seconds

“What does it mean to be an adult?” This question opens a commercial for JR East’s membership program for people aged 50 and over, called Otona no Kyujitsu Club (The Adult Holiday Club).

This time, the setting is Aizu in Fukushima Prefecture, showing Yutaka Takenouchi visiting with his wife.

His childlike excitement is striking, making him appear all the more charming.

This commercial introduces WESTER, JR West’s point service, featuring Wakana Aoi as Kiki, the protagonist of the film Kiki’s Delivery Service.

It highlights how you can earn lots of points when shopping around town, use the accumulated points to ride the Shinkansen, and take advantage of convenient features in the WESTER app.

This is a JR West commercial in which Wakana Aoi, dressed as Kiki from the Studio Ghibli film Kiki’s Delivery Service, introduces how to earn and use WESTER Points.

In the “Kiki: A Reward Trip with Points” version, comedian Asei from the duo Miki also appears, and a black cat that looks just like Jiji from Kiki’s Delivery Service makes an appearance as well.

“Iza Iza Nara” Yamato Four Temples Edition – 60 seconds

This is a commercial from the “Iza Iza Nara” tourism campaign in Nara Prefecture by JR Central.

In the “Yamato Four Temples” version, Ryohei Suzuki visits Hase-dera in Nara, captured in beautiful visuals.

It’s a spot that makes you rediscover Nara’s charms and think, “I didn’t know there was a place like this in Nara!”

“Iza Iza Nara” Kōfuku-ji Edition — 60 Seconds

The commercial for “Iza Iza Nara,” JR Central’s tourism campaign for Nara Prefecture.

This time, it focuses on the area around Nara Park, including Kofuku-ji Temple.

It’s memorable to see Ryohei Suzuki fully enjoying Nara—viewing Buddhist statues, eating traditional Japanese sweets while looking out over gardens, and savoring Nara’s surprisingly abundant spice curries.
