You’ve probably often seen JR commercials—JR has a rail network spanning all across Japan—while watching TV or browsing video sites.

They’re full of things that make you want to go out, like announcements about great deals and travel campaigns you can enjoy using JR lines.

What’s more, JR commercials feature all kinds of trains, from the Shinkansen to popular limited express trains, so they’re fun to watch for the visuals alone.

Kilimanjaro Iced Coffee

This is a commercial that introduces the Kilimanjaro iced coffee sold at NewDays and highlights the passion and care put into it.

Because of its simple structure—just pouring coffee and narration—the dedication to the coffee comes through strongly.

The imagery of shining ice merging with the coffee also conveys a refreshing feel, doesn’t it?

This is a commercial promoting that the Sonic, a limited express train operated by JR Kyushu and known for its deep blue body, will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2025.

The ad features a driver approaching a Sonic stopped at a station, while the Sonic itself speaks its thoughts—a structure that’s sure to resonate with many railway enthusiasts.

This is a JR East commercial introducing new services born from employees’ ideas, such as renting baby strollers at stations.

In addition to Minami Hamabe, the ad features her future children appearing from the future, and Hamabe’s slightly bewildered reaction to the situation is also a key highlight.

JR Central: Off to Nara, the ‘Asuka’ editionRyohei Suzuki

“Iza Iza Nara” Asuka Edition – 60 seconds

In the JR Central travel campaign commercial “Iza Iza Nara,” this installment highlights the charms of Asuka Village.

It opens with scenes of the Ishibutai Kofun and the Masuda Iwafune, then Ryohei Suzuki goes on to visit one famous spot after another around Asuka Village.

It ends with a shot of him enjoying delicious-looking dishes at the traditional house restaurant Da terra, leaving a strong impression of someone fully savoring all that Asuka Village has to offer.

Many viewers from outside the prefecture were likely intrigued, thinking, “I had no idea there was a place like this in Nara’s Asuka Village!”

This is a promotional commercial for JQ CARD, a credit card offered by the JR Kyushu Group.

In the commercial, the appeal of JQ CARD is showcased to a parody of Akina Nakamori’s signature song “Kazari Janai no yo Namida wa.” It features Aoi Yamada—who is also active as a dancer and model—delivering a striking dance performance in sync with the music.

This lovely commercial, featuring Akira Emoto in the role of Professor Suzuki, is the kind that warms your heart.

Professor Suzuki has lost his wife, and while sorting through her belongings he finds the Suica card she used.

He uses it to take a train and go buy the cake she had once said she wanted.

Unsure which cake to choose and struggling a bit, he manages to buy one and return home.

But when he reports at the household altar that he forgot to buy a piece for his wife—the most important one—he suddenly hears her voice from somewhere.

It’s a beautiful piece that portrays the bond between husband and wife through a single Suica card.

The background music features Ichiko Aoba’s “Hitotsu Dake.” Her calm, serene vocals are incredibly soothing—a gentle song you’ll want to keep listening to.

Adult Holiday Club “Fukushima & Aizu” Version – 60 seconds

“What does it mean to be an adult?” This question opens a commercial for JR East’s membership program for people aged 50 and over, called Otona no Kyujitsu Club (The Adult Holiday Club).

This time, the setting is Aizu in Fukushima Prefecture, showing Yutaka Takenouchi visiting with his wife.

His childlike excitement is striking, making him appear all the more charming.
