[For Seniors] June-Themed Activities: Recommended Recreation and Game Collection

We’d like to introduce some June-perfect recreational activities for seniors.

June is the rainy season in Japan.

Since it’s hard to go outside, many people tend to become inactive.

We’ve gathered recommended activities and games for times like these.

Why not enjoy the rainy season with flowers, creatures, and items associated with the monsoon? We also recommend choosing indoor activities that allow for gentle exercise to help prevent a lack of physical activity.

Let’s lift everyone’s spirits and have fun together, even on rainy days.

Here’s a game called “Color Ball Drop” played in pairs.

Have two older adults sit facing each other and hold the ends of two sticks.

Place baskets labeled with colors between them.

Roll balls along the sticks and drop each ball into the basket with the matching color.

Cooperation between the two participants is key—they should communicate and synchronize their movements.

It’s a fun activity that encourages conversation and helps expand social interaction.

Here’s a game that gets you moving your feet while having fun and training at the same time.

Have older adults sit in a chair and pull a sheet of newspaper with their feet.

They can pull it with one foot or with both feet together.

You can also have two older adults sit facing each other at a distance and compete—it should be fun.

Besides providing leg exercise, it’s likely to increase interaction among older adults and bring more smiles.

It can also help with a change of pace and stress relief.

Please give it a try.

When it comes to seasonal symbols of June, alongside the rainy season and snails, many people would also name hydrangeas.

Just like autumn foliage, you might suddenly realize the hydrangea blooming season has already ended before you know it! So on a June weekend, why not visit a botanical garden to enjoy the hydrangeas? Other flowers that are at their best in June include lilies and gardenias.

fashion show

June is the season for changing wardrobes, isn’t it? How about putting away those thick coats, taking out your summer clothes, and having a little fashion show? It doesn’t have to be anything special—just strut down a makeshift runway to some music and walk like a model in your everyday outfits! Trying makeup you wouldn’t normally wear is also highly recommended.

Music appreciation

Music appreciation

Do you all usually listen to music often? Listening alone with headphones or holed up in your room is great, but how about getting together with a bunch of people and holding a music appreciation gathering? Back in elementary school, we used to go to classical concerts and have music appreciation days, right? It’s nice to listen to all kinds of genres, not just classical.

Since June 9 is Rock Day, a rock-listening party sounds like a great idea too!
