[Kansai Region Local] Compilation of Local Commercials Aired in Kansai (51–60)
Asahi Cosmetic Surgery

For people living in the Kansai area, this is probably one of those commercials you can’t help but want to sing along to—right up there with “Kansai Denki Hōan Kyōkai” and “Piano uttetchōdai.” It’s the ad for Asahi Cosmetic Surgery, a cosmetic surgery clinic with locations in Osaka, Nara, Wakayama, and elsewhere.
It’s that song you end up memorizing without even trying.
And while the tune is the same, the visuals people recall may differ—some remember the animated version, others the one featuring the clinic director.
By the way, depending on the era, the vibe of the song stays the same, but the melody is slightly different.
U-POHS

When he blows in sync with the line, the barcode hair goes fwoosh…
I’m pretty sure this was a local commercial from the Kansai region.
The comedy duo Haruka and Kanata Unabara appeared in this TV ad for U-POHS.
Since it’s a company that buys cars and sells used cars, Master Kanata Unabara recites a phone number that’s a pun on the phrase “If you’re selling your car, give us a call.” And the one on the receiving end of that breath is Master Haruka Unabara, with his classic 1-9 side-part hairstyle.
It’s a stunt—an ad—that only those two could pull off.
Kansai Electric Power: “What We Can Do for the Environment” (Edition)Sadao Abe

It portrays Sadao Abe steadily working on things he can do in his daily life “for the environment.” In the latter half of the commercial, it introduces the initiatives Kansai Electric Power is undertaking to reduce carbon dioxide emissions when generating electricity.
ABC Housing

This commercial perfectly matches a genuine country-style jingle with a nostalgic anime vibe.
If you look closely, you’ll notice an unusual, eye-catching scene: taking a cat for a walk on a leash.
In another version of the ad, the CM song was written and composed by Susumu Sugawara of Billy BanBan, showing ABC Housing’s dedication to its background music.
The exceptionally peaceful country music and the cute art style are truly soothing!

Keihan Electric Railway

The Keihan Railway, an indispensable line in Kansai that mainly links Osaka and Kyoto, runs trains in a light green livery that gives off a somewhat retro vibe.
Speaking of Keihan commercials, the catchphrase “People who ride Keihan are Okeihan” evokes a distinctly Kyoto feel.
“Okeihan” is Keihan’s image character, introduced in 2000.
Characters named “○○ Keiko,” whose surnames come from Keihan station names—such as Yodoya Keiko and Sanjo Keiko—had reached the seventh generation by 2022.
Arctic Popsicle

When it comes to ice pops, people in Kansai are most familiar with 551 Horai, but we mustn’t forget Hokkyoku’s ice pops either! In this commercial, a penguin living at the North Pole appears to a cute, comical melody.
Watching the scene where colorful ice pops are lined up like the aurora in the Arctic sky, you can really feel how strongly they lean into the “Hokkyoku” theme.
And the song—though short—delivers a different kind of impact from 551’s.
The bouncy, upbeat singing style sticks in your head and won’t let go!
Super Tamade

The commercial for Super Tamade, Osaka’s famed ultra-cheap store known to those in the know, perfectly captures that Kansai-local vibe.
It’s basically a neighborhood supermarket that people outside the Kansai area wouldn’t normally know about, but thanks to the ad featuring a man in eye-popping, bright yellow suit jacket and pants who relentlessly repeats the store’s name, its recognition has skyrocketed.
Just by watching the footage you can pick up the key info—rock-bottom prices, open 24 hours—and above all, the sheer boldness and cheerful energy that drill the store’s name into your memory are truly impressive!
