Sakura RoadKyūshūdan

Kyuuso’s track “Sakuramichi,” in which he reflects his life so far in the cherry blossoms that bloom every spring.
Released in 2009 as a double A-side single together with “Kumo no Ue no Kimi to,” the song was featured in a commercial for mu-mo, the avex trax music distribution site.
Cherry blossoms bloom at the same time every year, transcending eras, and they watch over my growth year after year.
Seeing those blossoms makes me feel like I can start again and do my best from here.
The song seems to teach us about the memories evoked through cherry blossoms, the power they give us, and the unique strength of cherry blossoms that can be felt precisely because it’s Japan.
Come, spring.Matsutōya Yumi

This song, Haru yo, Koi by Yumi Matsutoya, has been used in commercials such as Huis Ten Bosch and Suntory’s canned coffee BOSS.
Released in 1994 as Matsutoya’s 26th single, it is also known for being the theme song of an NHK morning drama series with the same title.
The song is often associated with the beauty of the Japanese language, and it’s essentially a song about spring—or rather, about yearning for spring.
Because of that, it carries a sense of coldness and loneliness, conveying the feeling of holding on and patiently waiting for spring to arrive.
SakurazakaFukuyama Masaharu

A signature song by Masaharu Fukuyama that was released in 2000 and became a massive hit.
In March 2017, it was used as the CM song for Asahi Super Dry’s “Spring that connects hearts.” The lyrics reflect his feelings from when he lived near Sakurazaka, and as a heartbreak song that overlaps with the fluttering feelings of spring and with cherry blossoms, it’s still often cited as a classic spring tune.
Yet when you listen to it, there’s also a soothing quality that gently calms the heart.
It seems like it would feel especially pleasant to hear it while basking in the soft spring sunlight.
SAKURA, I love you?Nishino Kana

Nishino Kana’s “SAKURA, I love you?” overlays the scene of falling cherry blossoms with her own wavering feelings of love.
Released in 2012, the song was used in a commercial for the Sony Walkman “Play You.” campaign.
Even though she has a new lover now, the one she still longs for is her ex…
The way Nishino Kana sings, as if telling herself she doesn’t love him anymore, feels strikingly real and hits home.
I bet many women can relate.

Sakura Horohorosadamasashi

Masashi Sada’s “Sakura Horohoro” conjures a uniquely Japanese scene of cherry blossoms fluttering down.
Created as an image song for Onan Town in Shimane Prefecture, the track was included on his 2014 album Second Movement and was featured in the Mainichi-kō spring equinox commercial, “Yama Warau.” As shifting seasonal landscapes pass by, the song depicts the longing one feels for their hometown.
Listen to it while watching the cherry blossoms, and you may find yourself missing home too.
Sakura FuwariMatsu Takako

A hit song by Takako Matsu, who is also very active as a singer.
It was used as the theme for the Takano Yuri Beauty Clinic commercials, wasn’t it? The powerful hook that begins with her singing “I want to go somewhere far away” left a strong impression.
The lyrics are full of hope, depicting two lovers continuing to walk toward a brand-new world and life.
Takako Matsu herself wrote the lyrics.
By the way, an acoustic version of this song is included on the album “Ainotobira.” It sounds fun to compare it with the single version, doesn’t it?
Far, far awayMakihara Noriyuki

“Tōku Tōku,” included on Noriyuki Makihara’s 1992 album “Kimi wa Boku no Takaramono,” is said to have been written with his friends in mind.
The song was also used in a JA Bank commercial, which helped it become widely known.
He even released a self-cover in 2006, and it stands as one of his signature works.
The lyrics portray the resolve to work hard alone in a new place.
It might be a great song to send as encouragement to friends leaving their hometowns for school or work.
