While many people strongly associate Junji Takada as the brand’s image character, in 2004 none other than Kiyoshiro Imawano served as the image character.

This is the commercial song for the film March Comes in Like a Lion, sponsored by Lion.

Originally sung by Spitz, Haru no Uta (Spring Song) is covered here by Sakura Fujiwara.

March Comes in Like a Lion is said to be the story of a young professional shogi player who lost his family in a traffic accident when he was a child and carries emotional scars, growing through school club activities and his interactions with various people.

With a title like that, you can’t imagine anyone but Lion as the sponsor, right?

Lemon Pie, who sang this song, was a Japanese male idol group band that debuted in 1975 on Elec Records and also appeared in commercials.

The group’s name was chosen through a public call for submissions in the idol magazine “Jogakusei no Tomo.” They held a breakup concert at Shibuya Kokaido in 1979 and disbanded, but it is said they held a reunion live in 2006.

In fact, this band originally appeared as a fictional band in the 1996 film Swallowtail, but they went on to release an actual album and singles, and even performed live in 2003 and 2015.

The members are Chara (vocals), Takeshi Kobayashi (keyboards, guitar), and Yukio Nagoshi (guitar).
