Calbee Jagarico

[Nostalgic Commercial] Calbee “Jagarico” 2000 — Retro Japanese Commercials

Calbee’s Jagarico has been on the market since 1995.

It’s a classic snack and popular across all ages.

I bet many of you have tried imitating the way they eat it in the commercial at least once, right? Jagarico is a long, hard, wonderfully crunchy snack.

When you bite into it, it makes a great, crackly sound—the kind of sound that makes you want to eat it the moment you hear it.

Over the years, many different people have appeared in Jagarico commercials.

And even though it’s not a jingle, that voice in the background just saying “Jagarico” sticks in your head, doesn’t it? (laughs)

Yamaha Music School

[Nogizaka46] Riria Ito - Yamaha Music School TV Commercial 30s

This is a commercial for Yamaha Music School.

When you hear “music school,” you might tend to think it’s for children, but in fact there are classes and lessons for adults, too.

Still, the impression of this commercial is so strong that many of us automatically think “music school = for kids!” (laughs).

The catchy jingle sung by the children—the one you can’t help humming along to—actually isn’t a nonsense tune; it has a proper original song.

It’s a German folk song called “Ikeno Ame,” and it’s also sung in the opera Hansel and Gretel.

ANA Paradise Okinawa 2000Manami Honjō

ANA Paradise Okinawa Manami Honjo (2000)

This commercial conveys the liberating feeling of enjoying a summer vacation in Okinawa, while also reflecting ANA’s desire to offer that joyful experience.

By juxtaposing Manami Honjō’s strained expression as she faces her work with her carefree demeanor in Okinawa, it clearly communicates just how delightful that time is.

Further enhancing the lively, tropical atmosphere is the song LIFE feat.

bird by MONDO GROSSO.

Its light, memorable rhythm infused with Latin elements, combined with the expansive vocals, powerfully conveys passion and exhilaration.

Mr.

CONTAC was voiced by Shohei Shofukutei, and many people loved the approachable vibe and humor he brought to the role.

When Shohei Shofukutei passed away, a memorial commercial was aired, underscoring how this was one of the commercials that represented his career.

Coca-Cola Aquarius Vitamin Guard “Enjoy Winter” VersionSaki Aibu

This commercial conveys how the various ingredients packed into Aquarius Vitamin Guard help you get through the winter, told through scenes of Saki Aibu enjoying the season.

It clearly explains how it contributes to maintaining health, and you can feel the momentum not only in the actors’ movements but also in the on-screen text.

Emphasizing that dynamic imagery even further—and adding a refreshing touch—is the song “Uruwashiki Hito” by Ikimono-gakari.

With a band sound that’s both energetic and gentle, layered with a resounding vocal, it expresses warmth and freshness.

Coca-Cola Aquarius Freestyle ‘Beach’ Version

Coca-Cola Aquarius Freestyle Beach Version 2006 TV Commercial

This commercial portrays leisure and sports by the seaside, conveying that AQUARIUS Freestyle supports hydration in those moments.

It emphasizes that even when you’re moving in the water, you still sweat, so it’s important to replenish not only fluids but also nutrients.

Enhancing the cheerful, refreshing feel of the visuals is the song “Ashita ni Kakaruhashi” by Remioromen.

The band’s sound, which evokes freshness and momentum, is striking and helps convey the lively, fun atmosphere.

Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Alinamin R 2009Nao Matsushita

Alinamin R commercial

This commercial uses everyday-life footage to convey what Alinamin R does and when we want people to take it.
