P&G Bold 2008Tetsuji Tamayama, Shingo Suetsugu

P&G BOLD Detergent commercial

This commercial highlights the fact that the detergent contains fabric softener, showcasing its effects through Tetsuji Tamayama and Shingo Suetsugu.

In a humorous twist, during a sports scene they hold towels washed with Bold and become more focused on the softness than on the competition itself.

In the end, even their opponents gather and show bright, cheerful expressions, effectively conveying a sense of refreshment.

KIRIN Tanrei Green Label

Ken Shimura commercial, Kirin Tanrei, Green Dayo!!

The KIRIN Tanrei Green Label commercial, famous for the catchphrase “It’s fine, it’s green!”, features Ken Shimura showing off his comedic expressions.

While a group of men in colorful outfits are playing baseball, the ball they hit flies toward someone’s house and breaks a window or something.

When they honestly go to apologize, Ken Shimura appears as the homeowner.

For a moment it seems like he’s angry, but he immediately switches to a funny expression, holds up a Green Label, and says, “It’s fine.” Taking that as their cue, everyone shouts, “It’s green!” and they all happily drink Green Label together.

Wakasa Seikatsu Super Blueberry Eye

[Wakasa Seikatsu] Buruburu-kun & Ai-Ai-chan Blueberry Eye Commercial Collection [All 22 Versions]

Isn’t this one of those commercial jingles that sticks in your head after just one listen? It’s the ad for Wakasa Seikatsu’s “Blueberry Eye.” Back in the day, it was one of those commercials you saw and heard all the time.

And did you know these characters actually have names? The boy is Buruburu-kun, and the girl is Aiai-chan.

Buruburu-kun is voiced by Masako Nozawa, famous for roles like Goku in Dragon Ball, which is probably why it left such a strong impression on many people.

It’s the kind of commercial that makes you go “Oh!” at the end when you recognize Nozawa’s voice.

Acom “First-time Acom”

[CM 2002-04] ACOM First-time Acom 15s × 6, 30s × 2

Acom’s commercials are well known for the phrase “Hajimete no Acom” (“Your first Acom”).

In the ads that aired from 2001 to 2005, actress Mayumi Ono appeared as an Acom staff member.

At the service counter and as a call center operator, she introduced customers to Acom’s various features and how to use them.

She didn’t just assist ordinary customers—at times she even introduced Acom to a courier from a Japanese painting or figures from Egyptian wall art, who were astonished by its convenience.

The commercials depict a very pleasant staff member who never forgets to smile, whether at the counter or over the phone.

Asahi Soft Drinks Mitsuya Cider

Tears, then Mitsuya Cider

Many people probably remember the final melody that sings the product name—it’s so nostalgic! It’s the perfect-for-summer commercial for Asahi Soft Drinks’ Mitsuya Cider.

The ad features Riko Narumi, who was still a junior high school student at the time.

The CM song is GOING UNDER GROUND’s “STAND BY ME.” As if to encourage Riko Narumi, who’s hanging upside down on the horizontal bar while wrestling with something on her mind, her friend brings her a Mitsuya Cider.

The refreshing, likable visuals and the exhilarating track that perfectly matches the scene evoke a nostalgic feeling that brings back memories of one’s own youth.

Aflac: Aoi Miyazaki × Manekineko Duck

[The Duck's Waltz] AFLAC Aflac Commercial: Aoi Miyazaki × Maneki-neko Duck Edition [All 17 Videos]

Aflac’s commercials featuring the Aflac Duck have had many different versions and actresses over the years, but do you remember Aoi Miyazaki, who appeared in the ads starting in 2006? Her image was so strong and memorable.

She did a lot of commercials with a clear, natural vibe, and the CM song “Ahiru no Waltz” brings back a ton of nostalgia too, doesn’t it? And the Maneki-neko Duck that combined a beckoning cat with the duck is nostalgic as well!

Acecook Super Cup “Pork Kimchi”

Super Cup Pork Kimchi

The commercial for Acecook’s Super Cup “Pork Kimchi” featured the comedy duo London Boots No.1 No.2.

When Atsushi from “Lonboo” hypes the crowd by chanting “buta-kimu, buta-kimu” (pork kimchi, pork kimchi), the customers gathered at the convenience store respond in kind.

This call-and-response goes back and forth a few times, but eventually Atsushi keeps chanting “buta-kimu” nonstop without giving them a chance to respond, prompting Ryo to deliver a punchline.

In the final scene, with flames blazing in the background, the two of them eat the spicy pork kimchi.

Many of you may feel you’ve seen a version with different performers.

In fact, the comedy duo EXIT did a full recreation of that commercial in 2021.

Be sure to compare it with the early Lonboo version!
