Nostalgic commercials from the 2000s: Revisiting memorable ads (21–30)
Takemoto Piano “More and More” VersionIchiro Zaizu

Speaking of Takemoto Piano commercials, this is the one, right? It became one of the most famous commercials nationwide despite being a Kansai-only local ad, after it was featured on “Detective Knight Scoop” as a commercial that makes babies stop crying.
It starts with a cat’s meow, then the sound effect of a piano lid opening, and after another cat’s meow, a lively tune kicks in… Apparently, this whole progression captures babies’ attention.
Of course, many adults also find this commercial especially memorable.
JT Natural Peach Water

This is a commercial for Momo no Tennensui, a soft drink released in 1996 that later became a big hit.
Among them, the 1998 commercial featuring Tomomi Kahala is particularly famous and may be remembered by many.
The one introduced here isn’t the Kahala version, but a CM where a trio of women in yukata dance while promoting Momo no Tennensui Soda.
With its makeup, hairstyles, and direction, it’s a nostalgic ad brimming with Heisei-era vibes.

FujifilmKirin Kiki

When it comes to classic New Year commercials, you can’t leave out Fujifilm’s “Utsurun-desu” and the “Let’s Capture New Year’s” series.
This one is set around New Year’s Day 2001.
While two photo shop clerks say they photographed the first sunrise of the year, Kirin Kiki says she captured the “first sunset.” The quick retort—“So you couldn’t wake up, huh?”—and her sheepish expression make for a memorably humorous touch.
Takasu ClinicHiromi Go

In Takasu Clinic’s commercials from the early 2000s, Hiromi Go appeared.
This particular ad aired in 2001, and many fans were surely captivated by his cool mannerisms.
The BGM features his 2001 release “Onaji Michi, Onaji Basho,” making it a commercial where you can feel Hiromi Go’s charm both visually and aurally.
NIKE

This is the NIKE commercial titled “Duel,” featuring Shinji Ono, who was a standout for the Japan national soccer team from the 1990s to the early 2000s.
The one-on-one battle for the ball on a subway platform-as-stage was incredibly cool, and I imagine many people—soccer fans or not—still remember it.
Back then, NIKE had lots of other cool commercials featuring soccer and basketball being played on the streets, too.
EDWINBrad Pitt

Brad Pitt became the image character for EDWIN’s 503 when it debuted in 1997.
There was a commercial of him singing with a guitar, but this particular one aired in 2000.
It portrays Brad Pitt getting ready in the morning, and his look was so cool that it left a strong impression on many viewers.
Above all, the way he boldly says the model numbers in Japanese—“go-maru-san” and “go-maru-go”—was especially memorable.
REGZA “Sky and Sea” VersionMasaharu Fukuyama

The first commercial featuring Masaharu Fukuyama, who served as the image character for the REGZA brand for about six years starting in 2008.
Set to his own song, “The World Is Beautiful,” the video that sticks in the mind shows him shedding a single tear while watching TV with a black dog.
The grand song, which sings of the world’s beauty, seems to embody the television’s high performance that vividly renders the different shades of blue in the sea and sky.
Fukuyama returned as the image character in 2020, and the role has since been passed on to Shun Oguri—changes that feel quite moving in their own way.
