Nostalgic commercials from the 2000s: Looking back at memorable ads (71–80)
Seiban Angel Wings

A commercial for Seiban, the randoseru (school backpack) maker, featuring their product “Tenshinohane.” It turns out this commercial song has stayed the same for a very long time.
Among them, the version with Hiromichi Sato—Hiromichi Oniisan—who served as the 10th “Exercise Big Brother” on Okaasan to Issho starting in 1995, left a particularly strong impression.
True to his role as the exercise leader, he does calisthenics to that commercial song together with many children wearing randoseru.
It looks very light and agile, and gives a fresh, breezy impression, doesn’t it?
Hokuto (HOKTO)

This is a commercial from Hokuto, a company that produces edible mushrooms, known to many for its catchy jingle.
Various mushrooms appeared as characters in the ads, and a song introducing each mushroom played as the background music.
Multiple versions featuring these cute mushroom characters were made, delighting viewers each time like short animated episodes.
The song used in the commercials was released on CD in 2003 under the name Kinoko All Stars as “Kinoko no Uta” (The Mushroom Song).
Some supermarkets even played the track in their mushroom sections, and not only the ads themselves but also the song and the characters left a strong impression on many who watched the commercials.
Mushuda 2008

This is a memorable Mushuda commercial featuring the jingle “Mushuda that doesn’t leave any smell.” For many people, just hearing “Mushuda” makes that song start playing in their heads, doesn’t it? The chaotic storyline is also striking: the original character, Monsieur Kumao, is getting treated at the dentist when it’s discovered he has moth-eaten holes in his body, and he’s whisked straight off to the Mushuda factory.

Otsuka Pharmaceutical Pocari Sweat

The Pocari Sweat commercial that aired in 2000 featuring Anne Suzuki—nostalgic, right? The CM song, Porno Graffitti’s “Magic Hour,” brings back memories too.
I bet many people felt that thrilling sense of summer and youth watching it back then.
And the boy playing around at the beach with Anne Suzuki turned out to be Ryo Katsuji! When it comes to Pocari Sweat commercials, many of them have that bursting-with-youth, sweat-suits-it vibe, and this one is exactly that.
Amino SupplementAminonjer: Giraffe Ranger Squad

The Amino Suppli commercial that was a complete parody of Sentai heroes like Gorenger is really nostalgic too.
Around 2000, it felt like loads of “health-conscious beverages” started hitting the market—things with fiber or amino acids, which are now totally commonplace.
What’s funny about this ad is that the red hero, who seems to be the team leader, is the only one who’s really overweight.
If social media had been around back then, it would’ve gone even more viral.
The background music also sounds just like a Sentai theme song, and it’ll definitely grow on you.
If you haven’t heard it, give it a listen!
ENEOS VIGO

ENEOS, whose commercials featuring Enegori-kun are popular these days, once aired a series of ads in 2005 starring the five members of TOKIO.
At the time, ENEOS’s premium gasoline was branded “Vigo,” and to highlight its performance, each member of TOKIO delivered a short line in turn.
The punchline came with Mr.
Shigeru Joshima’s final line, giving the ad a comedic twist.
It was a commercial that only TOKIO—longtime household favorites—could pull off.
What a nostalgic memory!
Suntory Burn-Type Amino Formula

Despite the light, catchy vocals of its jingle, Suntory’s amino acid drink “Nenshō-kei Amino-shiki” became a hot topic for its series of commercials featuring superhuman feats that make you want to blurt out, “There’s no way anyone could do that!” From 2003 to 2005, the ads were widely talked about as fun, family-friendly TV spots.
Memorable scenes included a high school girl repeatedly spinning in midair after kicking off the ground, a salaryman climbing a pole by lifting himself with only arm strength while his feet float, and a child twirling around atop a mother lying on her back with her legs raised.
