vogueHamasaki Ayumi

Released in 2000 as Ayumi Hamasaki’s 14th single.
It peaked at No.
3 on the Oricon Weekly Singles Chart and became a hit, selling over 760,000 copies in total.
In live performances, it is often staged with cherry blossom–inspired imagery.
It was used as the theme song for KOSÉ’s “VISEE” commercial.
Harusaki KobeniYano Akiko

This song was created by an all-star team: lyrics by copywriter Shigesato Itoi and arrangement by six members of Yellow Magic Orchestra’s touring band.
Throughout, the track is characterized by a strong techno feel.
The lyrics, which incorporate onomatopoeia by Itoi, are part of its appeal, and together with Akiko Yano’s vocals, they create a certain sense of comfort.
The vocals, the sound, and the lyrics—every element that makes up the piece is outstanding, resulting in a memorable classic that lingers in the ear.
Nude LipsTakaumi Chika
A major hit by Chika Takami, written and composed by EPO.
There’s an anecdote that the French line in the lyrics—something like “Won’t you join me tonight?”—ran afoul of the moral standards of the time, and she ultimately wasn’t allowed to sing it on NHK.
The song also incorporates Chinese, showcasing EPO’s playful spirit throughout.
The track itself has a very cheerful vibe and could be called quintessential Showa-era kayōkyoku.
It beautifully captures the feeling of a new romance in spring, and I think its worldbuilding will really move you.
Highly recommended for karaoke, too!
