Sumitomo Life Vitality ‘Landing This Summer’ EditionNagayama Eita

Eita encounters the running Melos: Sumitomo Life’s new commercial, “Vitality: Landing This Summer”

How am I supposed to feel watching this…? No, I don’t mean that in a bad way.

It’s a commercial based on Dazai Osamu’s famous short story “Run, Melos!” The idea is that Melos, who is sprinting across the wilderness for the sake of his friend who has taken his place, meets Ueda Hajime—the protagonist of the “1UP” series played by Eita.

It is an insurance commercial, but in any case, the direction is utterly captivating.

Sumitomo Life Future Diagnosis: ‘Constellation’ EditionHarada Kana, Aiba Masaki

[Kana Harada / Masaki Aiba] Sumitomo Life Future Diagnosis “Constellation” Version 30s

This is the 2013 Sumitomo Life commercial, Future Diagnosis: Constellation version.

While Masaki Aiba is looking at the night sky from a rooftop, a woman who introduces herself as being from “Sumisei” appears before him.

She explains that using a service called “Future Diagnosis” will reveal a rational structure for insurance, and then fires a laser beam from her forehead.

Prompted by her, Aiba fires a laser beam too, but his is wobbly… making for a heartwarming scene.

Sumitomo Life: ‘My Future’Aiba Masaki, Kitagawa Keiko

Nice CM: Sumitomo Life, Masaki Aiba, Keiko Kitagawa, 4-part series

This is Sumitomo Life’s 2011 commercial, “My Future, Our Future.” It features Masaki Aiba from Arashi talking about the future.

At the beginning there’s a slow-motion running scene; his long limbs look lithe and healthily beautiful, like a gazelle.

The words “Rinki ōhen” (adaptability) written in chalk on a scoreboard—apparently in Aiba’s own handwriting—add a nice touch.

Sumitomo Life 35th Children’s Art Contest: ‘My Future Award’ Edition

35th Children's Painting Contest TV Commercial (♪ Sign by Mr.Children)

This is Sumitomo Life’s 2012 commercial for the 35th Sumitomo Life Children’s Art Contest.

It features documentary footage of Haru Soeda, who won the special “My Future Award,” riding a bicycle, along with his drawing of a stag beetle.

Set to Mr.Children’s “Sign” as the background music, it delivers a dramatic and moving finish.

Sumitomo Life “Level Up in Exams” EditionNagayama Eita, Kawaei Rina

Eita faces a mishap during an exam but doesn’t cheat; former AKB48 member Rina Kawaei is impressed — Sumitomo Life’s new commercial “Level Up in the Exam”

This series never fails to impress me.

In the latest “Level Up on the Exam” installment, Hajime Ueda takes an English proficiency test and does his best, only to realize at the end that he forgot to write his name.

This time we meet three characters: the person who took the test, an insurance agent who knows about it, and—believe it or not—the person who was sitting next to him during the exam.

It’s another light, comical episode that will make you chuckle.

Sumitomo Life “Osaka Vitality Challenge”bananaman

Sumitomo Life “Osaka Vitality Challenge” Bananaman Video 2.0 [Official Sumitomo Life]

This is a Vitality commercial built around the concept of maintaining good health.

It targets residents of Osaka, highlighting a limited-time offer of three months free and promoting rewards you can receive by exercising.

The slideshow-style footage featuring the cheerful smiles of the comedy duo Bananaman feels friendly and makes the message come through clearly and directly.

Sumitomo Life Mao Asada Support Project: “Our Winter: Job Hunting” EditionAsada Mao

[HD] Mao Asada Sumitomo Life “Our Winter: Job Hunting” CM (30 seconds)

This is a commercial created to support figure skater Mao Asada.

It shows how seeing her fight inspires people to push themselves, too.

Indeed, her perseverance brought courage and deep emotion to people all across Japan.

DREAMS COME TRUE’s song “Nando demo” (“Again and Again”) perfectly matches the message of the commercial and makes it truly moving.
