AC Japan commercials: from humorous direction to messages that pierce the heart (51–60)

AC Japan “Kenshin and Shingen, a Recommendation for Checkups”

2017: Kenshin and Shingen, a recommendation for a health check—AC Japan TV commercial

It’s a memorable commercial where Shingen Takeda and Kenshin Uesugi have a fun back-and-forth! The heart is a vital organ for humans, so if anything seems off, you want to catch it early with a checkup.

I think it’s great that a cheerful commercial like this encourages people to get screened.

Maybe commercials like this are necessary precisely because these days we can detect many illnesses at an early stage!

AC Japan ‘Black Painting’ Version

Public Service Announcement CM 'Black Painting'

This is the 2006 AC commercial “Black Painting.” In elementary school, a student who was asked to draw what was in his heart ended up coloring his entire drawing paper solid black.

The homeroom teacher visits the family and meets with the worried parents.

Meanwhile, the boy keeps producing more sheets colored completely black.

He eventually gets hospitalized, but even there he continues to black out the paper.

However, near the end of the commercial, when the sheets are connected, they turn out to form a massive picture of a whale.

The final caption reads, “Please don’t take imagination away from children.” It’s a story-driven piece that really draws you in.

AC Japan “Drunk Driving is a No-No!” (version)Narration: Jiei Kawahira

Drunk driving is a “Hmm-hmm-hmm”! — AC Japan

This commercial, which features Jiei Kawahira as an animated character, was produced in response to the high number of drunk-driving accidents in Okinawa Prefecture.

Aimed at promoting the elimination of drunk driving, it uses Kawahira’s signature catchphrase, “Mumumu!” to create an approachable and friendly tone.

AC Japan ‘Flood of Complaints! Momotaro’ VersionNarration: Akihiro Miwa

AC Japan 2017 National Campaign CM “Complaints Flooding In! Momotaro”

This commercial depicts a massive backlash sparked by complaints about the story of Momotaro, leading to a flood of heartless slander directed at the old man and the old woman.

Akihiro Miwa’s gentle narration leaves a strong impression, doesn’t it? The CM concludes with the message that just because something is trending or under fire doesn’t mean you can say anything you like, asking viewers to pause and think for a moment.

AC Japan: “The harm has not been resolved” (version)Narration: Mitsuko Kusabue

AC Japan Radio CM 'The damage has not been resolved'

This is the AC Japan radio commercial “The Harm Has Not Been Resolved.” It raises awareness about an organization called the Nationwide Victim Support Network, and Mitsuko Kusabue’s low voice delivers powerful, highly persuasive impact.

The tagline, “Even if the case is solved, the harm is not,” truly gives you pause.

May it reach those who continue to suffer as victims of crime.
