Canon ‘Wonder BJ F850’L’Arc〜en〜Ciel

LArc Canon Printer CM

A Canon printer “Wonder BJ” commercial that prominently featured one of the defining rock bands of the Heisei era, L’Arc-en-Ciel, and their music.

The spot aired in 1999 and felt like it synchronized the band’s commitment to trailblazing sounds with the pursuit of cutting-edge printer technology.

The CM song, “LOVE FLIES,” is memorable for hyde’s expansive high-toned vocals, grunge-tinged hard guitar, and a chorus that explodes and feels almost purifying, capturing the cool vibe of the Heisei era.

Shionogi Pharmaceutical Popon SSatomi Kobayashi

Shionogi Pharmaceutical Popon S (2003.12) Satomi Kobayashi

Satomi Kobayashi, who could be considered one of Japan’s leading comediennes.

Her fresh, youthful performance in the film “Exchange Students,” and her role as the youngest sister in the sitcom “I Still Love Cats” are unforgettable.

Another nostalgic favorite is her commercial for Shionogi’s Popon S, where her charm is on full display.

Accompanied by the mysterious “Popon popo popo~” jingle, Kobayashi shows a series of moves that seem like either tai chi or kung fu.

It’s so relaxed that you can’t tell whether the choreography was planned or ad‑libbed.

Either way, her smile steals the show—an irresistibly powerful CM!

Mandom Gatsby Shaving Gel “Talking Baby”Masahiro Motoki

[CM] Mandom Gatsby Shaving – Masahiro Motoki

When you see an adorable baby, you sometimes just want to rub their little cheeks, right? In those moments, I’d remember this commercial and think, “Is that really okay?” It’s a classic where a cherubic, lovable baby starts talking with a gravelly, tough-guy voice—the gap is jaw-dropping.

Masahiro Motoki’s slightly wild charm is wonderful too.

It reminds you to always keep your grooming in check, or you might be bothering others without even realizing it.

Regardless of gender, this was the commercial that made us aware of that.

Sapporo Beer SlimsArisa Mizuki

Sapporo Beer Slims

In the Sapporo Beer “Slims” commercial, Alisa Mizuki—known for her long limbs and beautifully slender figure—makes a memorable impression as she lightly pinches the flesh at her waist.

Despite her supermodel-like presence, her playful concern about belly fat made her feel relatable.

It captures an era when low-calorie, low-sugar, and purine-cut beers were beginning to draw attention.

The ad prominently featured the “healthy” angle, and Mizuki’s final refreshing “Puh!” after a sip was simply delightful.

Amino SupplementAminonjer: Giraffe Ranger Squad

[KIRIN] Amino Supplement Commercial Compilation ☆ Kirin Squadron Aminonjer [All 13 Versions]

The Amino Suppli commercial that was a complete parody of Sentai heroes like Gorenger is really nostalgic too.

Around 2000, it felt like loads of “health-conscious beverages” started hitting the market—things with fiber or amino acids, which are now totally commonplace.

What’s funny about this ad is that the red hero, who seems to be the team leader, is the only one who’s really overweight.

If social media had been around back then, it would’ve gone even more viral.

The background music also sounds just like a Sentai theme song, and it’ll definitely grow on you.

If you haven’t heard it, give it a listen!
