ロックンロールやジャズのルーツと呼ばれるブルースの誕生は、19世紀後半にまでさかのぼります。
いわゆる戦前ブルースとも称されるデルタ・ブルースやカントリー・ブルース、戦後シカゴから発達したエレクトリックを用いたシカゴ・ブルースやモダン・ブルースなど、その形式はさまざまであって一口で語れるものではありません。
今回の記事では、2020年代の今も多くのミュージシャンがそのスタイルや魂を受け継ぐ、ブルースの名盤をご紹介します。

Blues Before SunriseLeroy Carr
ひとりで演奏する弾き語りが圧倒的に多い戦前のアコースティック・ブルースは、ギター弾き語りが圧倒的に多いですが、ピアノを弾き語りするミュージシャンもいました。
リロイ・カーはそのひとりで、レイドバックしたブルースを聴かせます。
Dust My BroomElmore James
Elmore James（エルモアジェームズ）は、1918年生まれ、アメリカ・ミシシッピ州リッチランド出身のブルースのギタリストです。
エレキギターによるボトルネック奏法というテクニックをメインとした野生的な音が特徴的であり、後のロックギタリストに大きな影響を与えています。
10代の頃からクリーンヘッド、ジョーウィリージェームスなどの名前で音楽活動をスタートし、ロバートジョンソンらと共演しています。
1951年にリリースされたDust My Bromがヒットし、ブルースロックのミュージシャンにカバーされてきています。
Boogie ChillenJohn Lee Hooker
John Lee Hooker（ジョンリーフッカー）は、1917年生まれ、ミシシッピ州クラークスデイル出身で、ブルースシンガー、ギタリストです。
独特なリズム感覚を持ったブギスタイルを確立し、King of Boogieともいわれています。
デルタで継父よりギターを習い、メンフィスでゴスペルの経験を積み、デトロイトでレコーディングをスタート、1948年のデビュー曲Boggie Chillenがミリオンセラー、I’m In The Mood、Boom Boomなどがあります。
1989年、72歳でThe Healerをリリースし、グラミー賞を獲得し、1991年にロックの殿堂入りを果たしています。
Bad bad whiskeyBuddy Guy & Junior Wells
エイモス・ミルバーン作のブルーススタンダードを名コンビ、バディ・ガイ＆ジュニア・ウエルズがカヴァーしたバージョン。
ムーディーな雰囲気を醸し出すサックスと口ずさんでしまうようなキャッチーなメロディが耳に残ります。
Stormy mundayAllman Brothers Band
米国の白人ブルースギタリストの最高峰がデュアン・オールマン。
特にスライドギターの名手であり、エリック・クラプトンに手ほどきしたという逸話もあるほど。
交通事故により24歳で夭逝しましたが、今でもその神がかったプレイは伝説で、生きていればどれほど凄いギタリストになっていたか惜しまれます。
Got My Mojo WorkingJames Cotton
ジェームス・コットンも優れたハーモニカ奏者です。
後にソウル・ミュージックなどブルース以外の音楽も演奏したコットンですが、マディ・ウォーターズのバンドに参加していたときは、ブルースハープ史上最高といえるほどのプレイを聴かせていました。
